During the week of September 13 the Gowanus Remediation Team continued removing sediment near the east side of the Union Street Bridge. Electrical workers conducted maintenance on the bridge’s lighting systems.
Demobilization of the work barges at the Carroll Street Bridge was completed.
The GRT has identified an obsolete cofferdam structure located in the canal near Douglass Street. This structure has been identified for removal and will be removed using a crane staged upland on Douglass Street.
To operate the crane there will be a partial road closure in place starting next week on Douglass street, between Bond Street and the Gowanus Canal. The road closure will start at the dead end of Douglass Street near the bulkhead and will extend for seventy five (75) feet west toward Bond Street. When the closure is in place the roadway and sidewalks within the work zone will be inaccessible to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The work zone is shown in the figure below. The GRT conducted targeted outreach to local stakeholders on Douglass Street to coordinate access and share information regarding this road closure.
