Progress Update, Week of January 2nd, 2023

During the week of January 2, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) completed Phase 3 dredging between the Carroll Street Bridge abutments. All dredging has now been completed for RTA 1! Over the coming weeks the GRT will transition our operations to begin the RTA 1 Capping Operation.

Sealant was placed at bulkheads and monopiles near the Union Street Bridge.

Mobilization continued at the new GRT staging area. Demobilization continued at the current GRT staging area.

Progress Update, Week of January 9th, 2023

During the week of January 9, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) began mobilization for the RTA 1 Capping Operation. The Capping Operation will place a layer of new material along the bed of the canal within RTA 1. Capping is expected to continue through Spring 2024.

This week the GRT began installing pipe sections along the canal that will be used to transport capping material from the staging area during the Capping Operation. A barge was mobilized in preparation for the initial capping demonstration.

Sealant was placed at bulkheads and monopiles and the areas under the abutments were graded near the Union Street Bridge.

Progress Update, Week of January 16th, 2023

During the week of January 16, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued mobilizing for the RTA 1 Capping Operation. The Capping Operation will place a layer of new material along the bed of the canal within RTA 1. Capping is expected to continue through Spring 2024.

Pipe installation continued along the canal between the GRT staging area and RTA 1. This piping will be used to transport capping material to the work zone during the Capping Operation.

Soil grading was completed and sealant placement continued near the Union Street Bridge.

Mobilization continued at the new GRT staging area. Demobilization continued at the former GRT staging area.

Progress Update, Week of January 23rd, 2023

During the week of January 23, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) began the. Material transportation piping installation was completed. Layering of material began within the test area. As the first phase of capping begins, this test will ensure that all equipment is calibrated correctly.

Mobilization continued at the new GRT staging area. Demobilization at the former GRT staging area was completed.

During the week of January 30, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued the Demonstration Test for the RTA 1 Capping Operation.

Sealant placement was completed near the Union Street Bridge.

Mobilization continued at the new GRT staging area.

During the week of February 6, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued the Demonstration Test for the RTA 1 Capping Operation.

A cable terminal box was replaced at the Union Street Bridge.

Mobilization continued at the new GRT staging area.

During the week of February 20, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued the Demonstration Test for the RTA 1 Capping Operation. Capping material was placed and graded. Surveying was conducted to review the newly placed cap.

Mobilization at the new GRT staging area was completed.
