Progress Update, Week of August 1st, 2022

During the week of August 1, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued In Situ Stabilization (ISS) south of the Union Street Bridge.

Installation of support brackets and additional supports continued for the permanent submarine cables at the Union Street Bridge.

Sediment removal continued at the Union Street Bridge piers. Sediment and debris were hand excavated with a water jet.

Installation of dredging equipment on the excavator continued in preparation for upcoming Phase 3 dredging.

Progress Update, Week of August 8th, 2022

During the week of August 8, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) completed In Situ Stabilization (ISS) in Remediation Target Area 1 (RTA 1). The primary ISS platform began demobilization.

Dredge platforms and hopper barge were mobilized and anchor blocks were placed in preparation for Phase 3 Dredging.

Installation of support brackets and additional supports continued for the permanent submarine cables at the Union Street Bridge.

Sediment removal continued at the Union Street Bridge piers. Sediment and debris were hand excavated with a water jet.

Progress Update, Week of August 15th, 2022

During the week of August 18, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) completed mobilization and commenced with Phase 3 Dredging began between 3rd Street and Carroll Street.

The primary ISS platform was fully demobilized.

Installation of support brackets and additional supports continued for the permanent submarine cables at the Union Street Bridge. A trench for the cables was excavated. Divers were mobilized in anticipation of upcoming work.

Sediment removal continued at the Union Street Bridge piers. Sediment and debris were hand excavated with a water jet.

Progress Update, Week of August 22nd, 2022

During the week of August 22, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued Phase 3 Dredging between 3rd Street and Carroll Street.

The secondary ISS platform was kept on standby while ISS sample results were analyzed.

Divers began placing concrete and sealant at the submarine cable trench at the Union Street Bridge.

Samples were collected and analyzed at the Union Street Bridge pier.

Closure sheet pile was installed at Turning Basin 1.

Progress Update, Week of August 29th, 2022

During the week of August 29, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued Phase 3 Dredging between 3rd Street and Carroll Street.

The secondary ISS platform was kept on standby and began demobilization as ISS sample result analysis was completed.

Divers completed placing concrete blocks and sealant at the submarine cable trench at the Union Street Bridge.

Samples were collected and analyzed at the Union Street Bridge pier.

Timber mats were removed and the street was cleaned at the DeGraw Street End sheet pile installation site.

Progress Update, Week of September 5th, 2022

During the week of September 5, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued Phase 3 Dredging between 3rd Street and Carroll Street.

The secondary ISS platform was fully demobilized.

Staging platforms were reinstalled and control cables were installed at the Union Street Bridge.

Samples were collected and analyzed at the eastern Union Street Bridge pier.

Sediment was removed, sealant was placed, and sheet piles were cut to the correct height near the Carroll Street Bridge.

Progress Update, Week of September 12th, 2022

During the week of September 12, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued Phase 3 Dredging between 3rd Street and Carroll Street.

Cables were prepared for installation and pull boxes were installed at the Union Street Bridge.

Samples collection was completed at the eastern Union Street Bridge pier.

Sediment was removed, sealant was placed, and sheet piles were cut to the correct height near the Carroll Street Bridge.

During the week of September 19, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) completed Phase 3 Dredging between 3rd Street and Carroll Street. Phase 3 Dredging commenced between Carroll Street and Union Street.

Power and control cable installation continued at the Union Street Bridge.

Progress Update, Week of September 26th, 2022

During the week of September 26, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued Phase 3 Dredging between Carroll Street and Union Street.

Power and control cable installation continued at the Union Street Bridge. Newly installed cables were tested to ensure performance. Steel grating platform installation commenced.

Sheet pile bulkheads were cut to grade, sediment was removed, and sealant was placed near Carroll Street.

Drain holes were cut in sheet pile bulkheads and the street was paved at Degraw Street.

Mobilization began for the new GRT staging area at the intersection of Smith Street and Bay Street.

During the week of October 3, the Gowanus Remediation Team (GRT) continued Phase 3 Dredging between Carroll Street and Union Street.

Power and control cable installation and testing continued at the Union Street Bridge. Steel grating platform installation continued.

Mobilization continued at the new GRT staging area.
